News comes from GDELT, with Google News RSS as a fallback for topic searches. Publisher-country searches require GDELT. See GDELT’s documentation. “Indexed” timestamps show when GDELT found a report; “Published” timestamps come from RSS publisher metadata. Coverage is incomplete and may lag. Links open the original publisher, where subscriptions may be required. No paid articles are republished.

Earthquakes come from USGS. M6+ is our watch threshold; M7+ is a priority display category, not a prediction of impact. Floods, tropical cyclones, wildfires, volcanic activity and drought come from the Global Disaster Awareness and Coordination System (GDACS). Orange and red are GDACS source assessments; representative map points are not hazard boundaries. An event’s original start time controls its 12-hour glow; feed updates never reset it. GDACS times may have only day-level precision. This is a public news explorer, not an official government dashboard or an emergency alert service.

Country boundaries use Natural Earth’s generalized map, including its representation of disputed territories. Small states may be absent. Surface colors use a static NASA-derived composite by Solar System Scope (CC BY 4.0), not live satellite imagery or date-specific vegetation. Terrain uses a shaded bump texture; it is not a measured 3D elevation model. Moon positions use Astronomy Engine’s lunar ephemeris, transformed into Earth-fixed coordinates for the displayed UTC time. ISS positions use CelesTrak orbital elements and satellite.js SGP4 propagation, with Earth rotation accounted for. Elements older than three days are rejected. Paths sample one predicted orbit in the Earth orientation at the displayed time, not ground tracks. The Moon’s distance is uniformly compressed; ISS height is drawn relative to a spherical Earth and body sizes are enlarged. Real-time mode follows the clock, and Pause freezes positions. Orbit preview accelerates computed positions while holding Earth’s orientation at the preview start; the news and disaster dates do not change. Return to Real time to restore the current positions. Archive dates show the Moon at the displayed UTC instant; ISS is hidden because historical orbital elements are not connected. These are computed positions, not live telemetry.

Time travel searches reports indexed on the selected UTC date within the available recent window. It does not reconstruct a complete historical news front page, and an older archive is not connected. Historical multi-hazard assessment snapshots are unavailable here; archive dates show USGS earthquake records only.
